Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD)
French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development (IRD) is a French multidisciplinary research establishment operating under the joint authority of the Ministry for Higher Education, Research and Innovation and the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs. It takes an original approach to research, expertise, training, and knowledge-sharing for the benefit of countries and regions, making science and innovation key drivers in their development. IRD is key French player on the international development agenda.
Its work is founded on an original model: equitable scientific partnership with developing countries, primarily those in the intertropical regions and the Mediterranean area. IRD sets its priorities in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to steer development policies and tackle the major challenges related to the global, environmental, economic, social, and cultural changes that affect the whole planet. MIVEGEC is a join research unit with IRD, the Montpellier University, the CNRS and the INRAe. It aims to understand, through integrative and transdisciplinary research, the mechanisms of emergence, amplification and transmission of pathogenic agents, their genetic and nongenetic determinants in order to be able to better understand the evolution of these infectious systems and to contribute to improving their control.
