OneHealthSecure Project Officially Launched

Project
One Health
Signature OneHealthSecure project

The OneHealthSecure project has officially launched, marking a significant milestone in efforts to address the growing threat of vector-borne diseases in the Mediterranean, Balkan, Black Sea, and Sahel regions.

Building on the achievements of the MediLabSecure project, which established a unique One Health network over the past 10 years, OneHealthSecure will further strengthen this network and address the remaining  gaps in the prevention, detection, and response to vector-borne diseases. The project will take a comprehensive approach, integrating the human, animal, and environmental health sectors to tackle these complex health threats. Key objectives of the OneHealthSecure project include:

  • Integrating environmental expertise into the management of vector-borne diseases, creating a holistic approach that brings together experts in human and animal virology, medical entomology, environmental science, epidemiology, and public health. This collaborative effort will enhance the capacity to tackle emerging threats like arboviral diseases.
  • Supporting the implementation of One Health principles within national contexts by empowering local stakeholders and fostering knowledge transfer. The project will promote the recognition of the One Health concept and its implementation through national advocacy efforts, aiming to drive political engagement and support at the country level.
  • Building a cooperative framework across the countries to improve prevention, preparedness, and capacity-building to tackle vector-borne diseases. The project aims to create sustainable partnerships and empower members to engage local communities and national authorities in One Health practices.

By advocating for the One Health concept and promoting its integration into national health policies, OneHealthSecure seeks to ensure that beneficiary countries adopt a unified and effective approach to better manage health risks posed by vector-borne diseases.

This initiative represents a significant step in enhancing global health resilience and strengthening our capacity to prevent future pandemics. We are confident that through collaborative action, the OneHealthSecure project will have a lasting impact on public health at national and regional levels.
